It’s not easy being square(ish), but that’s part of the GMC Acadia’s efficient charm, as it maximizes people and cargo space, which are obviously key for families looking at large but city-friendly three-row crossovers. Available with seven or eight seats, the Acadia offers 21 litres more interior space overall than the pricier Buick, at 4,298 litres overall, and a healthy 682 litres of luggage space behind the third row, more than its Ford Explorer rival. With a 281-hp 3.6-litre V6 that comes in at an overall fuel economy average of 12.3, the Acadia stands out for its practicality and luxury, especially on the tested Denali version, which came with a rear seat Blu-ray entertainment system, ventilated seats and remote start.
