Suzuki of Brampton Ready to Ride

For over 20 years, Suzuki of Brampton has been selling the Japanese manufacturers product. At first, they primarily were selling Suzuki’s unique brand of vehicles, like the venerable Samurai. This tiny 4x4 although ridiculed at first is now a cult classic and recognized as one of the most fun 992644_20936856[1]_optoffroad experiences it sells millions of units worldwide. The dealership continued to expand with reliable compacts like the Swift and moved to their current location in 1994. The Brampton Auto Mall might not be the first place one would expect to go shopping for bikes but for the last eight years, Suzuki of Brampton has been moving a lot of units out of that location.

The irony is that the same owners also own the Honda dealer right next door (in addition to: Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, Mazda, Kia and Nissan dealerships around the area). Classic Honda Powerhouse also offers the complete line of Honda motorcycles and ATVs as well but they aren’t in competition. Suzuki of Brampton, Motorcycle Sales Manager, Rob Couto explains to us the key factors to that steady growth over the past 20 years.

“I’ve been with the company for 15 years.” The 38 year old Couto proudly states “I have been involved with many areas of the business but came back to my roots here on the Suzuki 2-wheel side.”

Couto himself has been riding for just over 10 years and presently owns a Suzuki M109R and GSXR750 for personal use. He says he is more of a cruiser guy but has been onboard all of Suzuki’s crazy creations like the Hayabusa and every flavour of GSX-R over its illustrious history. “Several guys ride here, so we all go and get crazy on bikes after work,” laughs Couto. It is that tight knit team and passion for bikes that keeps them going strong. With himself, two sales representatives, one tech and an apprentice, they move 350-400 bikes past the curbIMG_0008_opt every year. Those are some good numbers for a motorbike dealer in Ontario and they service even higher numbers. At present, the split sees the sport bike sales accounting for 80% of those sales because exciting sport bikes have always been Suzuki’s forte.

When we asked what sets Suzuki of Brampton from the other dealerships around, Couto was quick to respond with sincerity. “Our staff is very knowledgeable and we offer accurate advice.” Says Couto “There is no B.S. here, we want people to get on the right bike for them.” Suzuki of Brampton is primarily concerned with building the relationship and the sales will continue for years to come. They also offer a very aggressive financing program with a 98% approval rate which puts their bikes in the hands of more people. Just because you have some marks on your credit, it isn’t going to be a deal breaker.

Couto keeps Suzuki of Brampton active in the community and at the bike shows as well. “We may move 40 units at show alone with our eye-catching displays and crazy deals.” Couto proudly states. They also give back to the community by sponsoring the Santa Claus Parade and the Brampton Fall Fair. At present they are not sponsoring any racers or events but will continue to offer racers a discount of 15% no questions asked. Keeping their Suzuki riders moving is important and Couto says it is important to offer the discount because every bit counts.

At present, Suzuki of Brampton offers sales and service of Suzuki product, so if you don’t see it, just ask. They do custom work once in a while but are geared more towards repairs and maintenance. Couto states they are still a dealership and are concerned with the service by the book to keep their clients on the road.

Suzuki of Brampton has seen a recent spike in some activity for their Burgman luxury scooter line. The rising gas prices have many people looking for IMG_0022_optalternatives to commute and the scooters have proven to be just that. However, Couto maintains their sport bike business is booming and the they are selling well regardless of fuel prices. The public and even the staff are eagerly awaiting the debut of the 2009 GSX-R1000. There is already a waiting list forming and deposits are being placed because as Suzuki claims, this will be the one to beat.
